UF POLY/PMSE Chapter

Our student chapter was created in 2012, and it is affiliated to ACS POLY and PMSE divisions as well as recognized as an official organization by the University of Florida.

Spring 2018
  • Dr. Adam Viege will present a keynote lecture at the Florida Annual Meeting and Exposition May 3-5 2018 at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, FL. Presenters will be discussing research in polymers and macromolecules from around the state.

  • Congratulations to Mayra Rostango of the Miller Group for winning the POLY/PMSE Video Competition! The purpose of the competition is to prepare young chemists to present their research in a short video and to interact with a broad range of audiences, including more senior scientists and the general public. Spring 2016
  • Congratulations to Jawaher "Jojo" Alfurhood of the Sumerlin Group for winning the POLY/PMSE Poster Award! Alfurhood won the POLY/PMSE Outstanding Poster Award of the 2016 Spring ACS National Meeting in San Diego for her poster titled “Hyperbranched Poly(N-(2-Hydroxypropyl) Methacrylamide) via RAFT Self-Condensing Vinyl Polymerization.” Jawaher is a 4th year student in the Sumerlin Research Group. This is her second poster award in ten months, with the first coming at the 2015 Florida Annual Meeting and Exposition of American Chemical Society (FAME 2015).


Our current officers (2021-2022) are:

President: Sofia Goodrich
Primary coordination of all chapter activities

  • Conduct regular meetings
  • Enforce parliamentary procedures
  • Encourage cooperation and participation
  • File annual reports
  • Represent the chapter in the POLY committee

Co-President: Lakshitha Perera
Assist President with coordination of all chapter activities and assume primary role if needed.

 

 

 

Vice President: James Young

  • Plan calendar for the year
  • Act on behalf of the president
  • Coordinate membership recruitment campaign
  • Assist and share responsibilities as necessary with the president

Secretary: Cory Kornman

  • Record minutes for all meetings
  • Compile membership roster
  • List committee assignments
  • Handle chapter correspondence


Treasurer: Afnan Mohomed Jaufer

  • Basic financial management
  • Prepare tentative budget at the beginning of year
  • Maintain balanced checkbook
  • Report on present income at all meetings
  • Record all cash advanced and handle reimbursements

Public Relations/Social Media: Megan Lott

  • Communicate news and events to chapter members
  • Publicize chapter activities via email, flyers, social media, etc
  • Keep student chapter board up to date


Event Coordinator: Jared Bowman

  • General coordinator of events performed by the chapter
  • Location, technology and refreshment management
